Choosing the right course and institution
Choosing the right course and organization is a key step in the journey to study in Canada. Ensure that the selected academy is a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) authorized to admit foreign students.
One will also need to finalize a specific major course during the process. While the Canadian academic setup allows flexibility in switching courses, it’s recommended to compare options and choose a major that aligns with your interests and career goals.
Language Proficiency Test
To gain entry into Canada, prove the expertise in either English or French. For English, the preferred test is the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Some institutions also accept the Cambridge English: Advanced or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam scores.
For French, options include DELF, DALF, or TCF, with the Test d’Évaluation de Français (TEF) being the most common choice.
Applying to universities
Canada has three intake periods each year: Fall, Winter, and Summer. Once the course and institution are chosen, it’s time to start applying to universities. Contact shortlisted universities, obtain their application packs, and submit them well in advance.
Keep in mind that each appeal may have an associated fee, which can range from $100 to $250. Research and compare options, and select one or two alternatives as backups.
When filling out the requesting form, provide accurate information supported by documentary evidence. After submitting the appeal, you’ll have to patiently wait for the acceptance letter from the university. This acceptance letter plays a significant role in the formalities that follow.

Now that an acceptance letter from an institution is received, it’s time to apply for a Canada Study Permit. An application must be accompanied with:

If one has applied to an institution in the province of Quebec, they will also receive a “Certificat d’acceptation du Québec” (CAQ) along with the acceptance letter, which must be included in the study permit.
Book an appointment for biometrics (fingerprint and photo) as soon as possible to avoid any delays in processing the appeal.
